BACHELOR DEGREE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT


Course Objectives

The specific objectives of this programme are:

  • To impart knowledge and skills that will enable learners to facilitate positive change of community behaviour and attitudes towards adoption of innovations
  • To equip learners with knowledge and skills that will enable them to enhance community capacity to effectively and efficiently manage development initiatives and processes
  • To impart knowledge and skills that will enable learners to help communities mobilize and harness resources to improve their livelihood
  • To impart knowledge and skills that will enable learners capacitate communities to assess and analyze problems and opportunities to solve them

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • The Higher Diploma programme in Community Development targets form six leavers and holders of Ordinary Diploma in Community Development or related fields at NTA level 6 with second class pass.
  • Form VI (ACSEE) leavers with at least two Principal passes in Arts subjects with total points not below 3.5 obtained from scoring A = 5, B+ = 4, B= 3, C= 2, D = 1 and E = 0.5 for those who completed studies in 2014 onwards, or 
  • Form VI (ACSEE) with at least two principal passes in Arts subjects with total points not below 3.5 obtained from scoring A = 5, B = 4,  C = 3, D = 2 and E = 1 and S = 0.5 for those who completed studies before 2014, Or
  • Ordinary Diploma in Community Development, Education, Social work, Rural Development, or other related fields from training institutions recognized by NACTE or TCU, with at least second class or B average. Applicants with diploma qualification must also have passed O-level Certificate of Secondary education Examination (CSEE) with at least four passes (D or above)

Note:   Before commencement of the second semester for this programme, candidates shall be required to select either of the two elective modules to fulfil programme assessment requirements.

 

Course Structure, coding and detailed allocation of credits Course structure

The BACD Course is a three year six semester course consisting of 16 weeks per semester. Each semester has an average of 800-900 contact hours equivalent to 80-90 credit points One contact hour refers to one hour of supervise classroom instruction. A student is supposed to attend at least 75% of contact hours allocated in each module in order to be allowed to sit for a semester examination.
